Glass Platter 5
Picture this handsome platter on your console table, or serving up nibbles to your guests. Here Laurie layers blocks of colour on transparent red glass and fuses them to a glossy top with a soft matte back. The glass layers have been so artistically arranged, you could even hang this on a narrow wall as an art piece.
Approx. 14 1/4" x 3 1/2"
Glass artist Laurie Freivogel calls her work "glass under pressure". In a new technique, Laurie applies weight to the layers of glass, fusing it at high temperatures. The weight presses the glass out and into itself to make these amazing colorations, depth and shadows. The glass goes into the kiln another time or two to fire polish, then a final time into (or over) a mold to achieve it’s final shape. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind functional sculpture.
