Colleen Deiss
Colleen grew up in Wisconsin and was raised to appreciate the great outdoors, a theme that shows itself in the work she now creates. Her path to pottery was not a direct route. After receiving a BA in 2012, Colleen began selling her watercolours and oil paintings at local art fairs. During this time she also worked part time in a ceramic studio. Here she spent countless extra hours experimenting with hand-building pottery, developing her own techniques. It didn’t take long to make the switch to working full time as a potter. Colleen’s studio has now completely taken over the family’s garage and basement. She continues to create new designs with the help of her husband, two beautiful babies and their smelly little dog Millie.
Slab building is an elaborate multi-step process that transforms a lump of raw clay into these embossed hand-formed vessels, all without the use of a potter’s wheel. Colleen high-fires each mug( cone 10) to make it durable as well as dishwasher and microwave safe. And beautiful too!
