Larry Cluchey
A self-taught wood turner, Larry Cluchey has been creating a variety of artistic and functional pieces from local hardwoods since 1990.
Larry has always been fascinated by wood, from its earthy smells and textures, to its subtle colours and sublime grains. Nowhere are these qualities more apparent than in the unique burl woods that have become the canvasses for many of his artistic works. Sometimes these pieces have seemed almost to have created themselves, still bearing the natural bark edges and labyrinthine cavities sculpted by tree and nature. As he works at the lathe, Larry uncovers the secrets of the wood in each layer. Even humble cedar rail sections are transformed into works of art. The anticipation is often great - the end result often spectacular.
Larry lives and works in a century old field-stone schoolhouse near Neustadt, Ontario.
