Hil-Dee Bates began life on a dairy farm in Idaho with seven siblings. Childhood included daily chores, but also countless hours spent creating her own “worlds” in the fields. This start in life pointed her to the beauty in nature and the simple things of everyday life. After completing a studio arts degree at Cottey College in Missouri, Hil-Dee spent a year at the University of New Mexico, absorbing as much as she could from the Native clay community. Her own earthy, textured and very functional style of pottery emerged.
Patrick got his start literally by accident. A sports injury made him slow down, giving him time to spend with his family’s wheel and clay, and he found throwing mud a pretty good way to pass the time.
Today Hil-Dee and her husband Patrick get to ‘play in the dirt’ all day at their studio in Brooksville, FL. Learning from each other’s strengths and combining their skills, together they create something new, adding to the natural beauty of the Dirty Dog line. Their mugs are all dishwasher and microwave safe.
Care Instructions: though dishwasher safe, hand washing is a great way to prolong the beauty of handmade pottery.
