Picture this handsome platter on your console table, or serving up sushi to your guests. Here Laurie layers mixed glass colours on an irregularly shaped form. The result is a depth of colour, glossy inside with a soft matte exterior.

Glass artist Laurie Freivogel calls her work "glass under pressure". In a new technique, Laurie applies weight to the layers of glass, fusing it at high temperatures. The weight presses the glass out and into itself to make these amazing colorations, depth and shadows. The glass goes into the kiln another time or two to fire polish, then a final time into (or over) a mold to achieve it’s final shape. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind functional sculpture.
