This platter is art for the table....or for the wall. Here Laurie starts with a base of deep purple and adds ivory and “stringers” of glass. The result is a depth of colour, glossy inside with a soft matte exterior. This piece would look lovely on a coffee table, or or hanging on the wall as art to enjoy every day.
Approx. 9" x 8 1/2" x 1" tall
Glass artist Laurie Freivogel calls her work "glass under pressure". In a new technique, Laurie applies weight to the layers of glass, fusing it at high temperatures. The weight presses the glass out and into itself to make these amazing colorations, depth and shadows. The glass goes into the kiln another time or two to fire polish, then a final time into (or over) a mold to achieve it’s final shape. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind functional sculpture.
